Let’s face it: When you’re a single mom, the rat race known as trying to get out of the house in the mornings can be exhausting and stressful. Most times, the last thing on your mind can be whether or not you’ve applied enough mascara or eyeliner. I will go ahead and admit that I am, by nature, a beauty product lover. So, I personally don’t mind taking the extra 5-10 minutes in the morning to do a cat eye or highlight my cheeks. Granted, I’m pretty fast at it all, but that’s mostly because I’ve had years of practice. However, there are those of you who will look at that makeup in the morning and be like “Bye, girl. Aint nobody got time for that.” Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with a couple of tips that can help you get beautified and out the door in a flash.
1. Get your base right.
The best way to skip foundation (and wearing layers of makeup) is to make sure that your skin is in tip-top shape. You know the obvious (drink your water, exercise, watch what you eat) but this also means caring for it daily. Always wash your face before going to bed at night. If you’re too lazy for that, these POND’S Wet Cleansing Towelettes are great since they remove dirt, grime and even waterproof mascara.
2. Focus in on your problem spots.
There’s no need to apply an entire face of foundation if all of your face isn’t broken out! Nor is there even any need for foundation if you’re just looking to cover up last night’s all-nighter around your eye area (you know, those dark circles or that overall look of fatigue). Figure out what you want to hide and go from there. Sometimes it’s just a couple of dabs of concealer here and there. No need to waste time apply excess makeup that you don’t even need! Try to find a concealer such as the Clinique Airbrush Concealer that works double duty as a concealer and brightener.
3. Invest in sticks.
Not like the kind you find outside, but actual makeup pencils. Luckily, most everything now comes in a pencil form. There are even those such as the e.l.f. Essential All Over Color Stick that can be used on your eyes, lips and cheeks. Sometimes there’s no time for me to think about contouring much of anything on my face with a makeup brush and the Nars Multiple Bronzer
is a lifesaver for that. I just smile, smudge along the highest parts of my cheekbones and quickly blend with my fingers.
4. Makeup pots are your friends.
Eyeshadow application can be quite tedious and there are times in which I can’t even find my eyeshadow brush. That’s where these great makeup pots come in! I love the Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo. Just swipe on with your fingers and rub in to blend. You can also blend the colors if you want to get fancy with it, but it literally takes a couple of seconds to put on eye shadow with these things which is quite amazing.
5. Curl your lashes.
Sometimes there’s just no time to wiggle your mascara wand. When this happens, simply use an eyelash curler instead. Curled lashes will give a similar look to those that have mascara on them plus takes about two minutes to do. My favorite lash curler is this one from Shiseido.
